St. Luke's Concert Series tribute to UCF

The UCF Symphony Orchestra and the St. Luke's Conert Series celebrated 20 years of special performances with a landmark concert on November 23, 2013. President Hitt welcomed a packed house at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Oviedo. The performance featured the UCF Symphony Orcestra and the UCF University Chorus with the premier of Florida Home, a tribute to the 50th anniversary of UCF by UCF composer-in-residence, Christopher Marshall.

Junior Achievement Hall of Fame induction

The Junior Achievement of Central Florida named President Hitt to its Hall of Fame in November 2013 because of his long-standing support of the organization. UCF's productive partnership with Junior Achievement represents the strongest relationship of JA with any university in the world.

President Hitt welcomes leaders from industry, government, higher education, and health care delivery as part of the Lake Nona Impact Forum at the UCF College of Medicine on October 25, 2013. The annual forum in the Medical City at Lake Nona engages a wide variety of leaders to develop far-reaching health care innovations and solutions.

President's 2013 State of the University Address

President Hitt marks UCF's 50th anniversary year with little-known facts about the beginnings of the university (today's main campus was not the original first or second choice as a site) and discusses where Florida's largest university is headed next. Along the way, he recognizes key founding supporters, salutes long-time original faculty and staff members, and unveils a new guaranteed admissions program called Top 10 Knights. In addition, he also announces that UCF has secured two new trademarks: America's Partnership University and America's Leading Partnership University. In honor of UCF's 50th anniversary, President Hitt recounts at a community focus breakfast UCF's remarkable rise from scrub grass and pine trees to become Florida's largest university and the second largest in the nation. His wide-ranging address outlines UCF's early struggles, recognizines key players, and points to a bright future for the university. A standing ovation followed these remarks from April 5, 2013, at downtown Orlando's Church Street Station.

LaunchPad elevates entrepreneurship at UCF

Central Florida's economy is getting another resource for success. On March 11, 2013, President Hitt joined the Blackstone Chairtable Foundation and other partners in announcing a new Blackstone LaunchPad center at UCF to help students and employees to turn their big ideas into business ventures. The BlackStone Charitable Foundation is supporting UCF with a three-year, $1.4 million award to operate the business incubator to open in the heart of campus at the Student Union.
